How to Care for Your Leather Products
Cleaning & Conditioning Leather
It’s important to condition leather a couple times a year to keep it supple, we like wax based conditioners. It’s a good idea to give it a good clean every now and then as well – saddle soap works great on most products. Use a soft damp cloth to wipe it down.
Think of leather like your skin. We need to shower and when our skin is dry, we apply lotion. Whenever using cleaning or conditioning products, test on a small hidden spot first. Some products can affect the color.
Getting the Leather Wet
Although we apply water resistant coating on most of our products, we recommend keeping the leather products away from water if possible. In the case that it does gets wet, lay it on a flat surface and allow it to air dry (you can point a fan at it if you’d like) Ithen condition after. Do not use heat to dry (hair dryers, putting it in the sun etc).
Extreme Heat
Extreme heat is not good for the leather as it will dry it out. If exposed to hot dry climate, make sure you condition the leather as needed. Keep leather out of the sun as it will dry the leather and make it brittle.
Storage
Store your leather products in a cool dry place. Leaving it in a damp area can cause mildew. Leaving them in sealed plastic bags can also cause moisture. It’s a good idea to keep the products in a soft bag to prevent scuffing or scratching it. A pillow case makes a great DIY storage bag.
